Yarmouth Voters Shelve Library Construction as Drought Rules Tighten

Voters at Wednesday night's Special Town Meeting indefinitely postponed the library construction article, while a newly declared Level 2 drought is tightening outdoor water-use rules across town — two developments that land on residents' doorsteps at the start of a dry Cape Cod summer.

TOWN HALL

The Special Town Meeting held June 24 ended with the library construction article indefinitely postponed, according to a town News Flash posted the following morning. No further detail on timing or next steps was provided in the official notice, but the move signals the project will not move forward under the terms presented.

Separately, the Massachusetts Drought Management Taskforce has elevated Cape Cod to a Level 2, or Significant Drought, designation. In response, Yarmouth has updated its restrictions on non-essential outdoor water use. Residents should review the town's current guidelines — the full details are posted at the town's drought status page (https://www.yarmouth.ma.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=1755).
