Sandwich Launches America 250 Weeklong Celebration Starting June 27

Sandwich launched its weeklong America 250 community celebration Saturday, June 27, kicking off seven days of family-friendly events marking the nation's 250th anniversary — all while the town issues timely reminders about road projects, transfer station permits, and summer safety ahead of the busy holiday stretch.

The town's America 250 celebration runs June 27 through July 4, with events designed to reflect on local and national history while looking to the future. Among the upcoming highlights: "Voices of 1776: At Hoxie House & Grist Mill" on Sunday, June 28, and a Public Art Unveiling & Reception on Tuesday, June 30.

Residents driving near Christopher Hollow Road should plan accordingly: resurfacing work is scheduled to begin July 8 on Christopher Hollow Road and nearby roadways. Work will run Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with full access to homes restored at the end of each workday. Separately, drainage construction on Kiahs Way at number 57 is set for June 30 and July 1, with that section of road closed during work hours.

Transfer Station permit holders face a June 30 deadline — current 2025–2026 permits expire that day. Renewals cover July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 and can be handled now to avoid a lapse in service.

The Department of Public Works and Police Department are again running the "Slow Down – In Our Town" public safety campaign as summer visitors and America 250 crowds arrive. The Sandwich Police Department also earned fresh news this cycle: the department has received Re-Accreditation from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission, a recognition of the department's adherence to professional standards.
