Truro Wins $320,000 State Grant for Solar Canopy at Central School
TRURO — The Healey-Driscoll Administration has awarded Truro $320,000 to build a solar canopy carport at Truro Central School, the single largest announcement in a week packed with town deadlines, a Route 6 public meeting, and a water forum on the horizon.
TOWN HALL
The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center's Green School Works program will fund a solar canopy carport above the upper parking lot at Truro Central School. The grant, from the Healey-Driscoll Administration, moves the district toward on-site renewable energy generation at the school campus.
Residents who want to weigh in on Route 6 have a chance Monday, June 16, when MassDOT holds a public information meeting on a planned resurfacing of Route 6 through Truro and Wellfleet. The project is designed to improve road-surface conditions, extend the life of existing pavement, and boost safety along the corridor.
Looking further ahead, a community water forum called "Straight from the Source" is set for Tuesday, June 24. The town describes it as a chance to share current data, answer residents' questions, and open an informed public dialogue about Truro's water.
Two positions close this week. The Planning Board is accepting applications for a volunteer vacancy — an unexpired term running through Annual Town Election 2027 — with a deadline of Tuesday, June 17. The Treasurer/Collector's office is also hiring an Office Assistant to handle front-counter service, administrative work, and record keeping; applications are due Wednesday, June 18.
Town offices and the Transfer Station will be closed Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. The Transfer Station reopens Saturday, June 20.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Truro Public Library's Anne H. Brock Room is currently showing "M-Ocean," a poetry exhibit by Jody Shyllberg. The library is also stocked with seeds for residents looking to start or expand a home garden through its seed lending program.
On Tuesday, June 16, the library hosts both an Author Talk and Writing Workshop and a Children's Community Garden Group session — two programs open to the public in the same afternoon.
