Sandwich Town Charter Signed Into Law, Now Posted Online

Sandwich's updated Town Charter has cleared the Massachusetts Legislature and received the Governor's signature, completing a process that gives the community a modernized governing document now available on the town website.

The newly finalized charter represents a meaningful milestone for Sandwich's local governance. The approved document is posted at sandwichmass.org for residents to review.

Separately, residents who use the Transfer Station have a deadline approaching: current 2025–2026 permits expire June 30, and the town is urging permit holders to renew now to avoid a lapse in access. Renewed permits will be valid July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. Renewals are available online and at Town Hall.

Chip seal surface treatment work that began on several town roadways June 8 remains ongoing. Roads are open to traffic, but the town is asking drivers to expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.

With June 1 marking the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, the town has also reminded residents that Sandwich's coastal location makes advance storm preparation essential. Guidance is available through the town's emergency preparedness resources.

**COMMUNITY & ARTS**

Sandwich is gearing up for a weeklong America 250 celebration running June 27 through July 4, anchored by a July 4th Moonlighters Concert and fireworks display on June 27, followed June 28 by "Voices of 1776" at Hoxie House and the Grist Mill. A public art unveiling and reception is scheduled for June 30. The town describes the series as a chance to reflect on the past while looking ahead.

On June 23, author Ted Reinstein will present "Greetings from Breed's Hill: Fact & Folklore on America's 250th" — an author talk timed to the anniversary commemorations.
