Sandwich Launches America 250 Weeklong Celebration Starting June 27
With the nation's 250th birthday just days away, Sandwich is launching a week of community events beginning Saturday, June 27 — and residents should also mark their calendars for two rounds of road and drainage work starting next week.
TOWN HALL
Sandwich is set to mark America's semiquincentennial with a weeklong series of family-friendly events running June 27 through July 4. The celebration opens Saturday evening with a Moonlighters Concert and Fireworks Display, continues Sunday with "Voices of 1776" living-history programming at Hoxie House and the Grist Mill, and includes a Public Art Unveiling and Reception on Tuesday, June 30. The full slate is available on the town events calendar at sandwichmass.org.
Drivers in two neighborhoods should plan for disruptions in the days ahead. Drainage construction at 57 Kiahs Way is scheduled for June 30 and July 1; that section of road will be closed during work hours, with full access restored each evening. Separately, resurfacing of Christopher Hollow Road and nearby streets is set to begin July 8, running weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Home access may be periodically delayed during active paving but will be fully restored at the end of each workday.
Residents are also reminded that Transfer Station permits for 2025–2026 expire June 30. Renewals for the 2026–2027 permit year are available now to ensure uninterrupted access.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The America 250 celebration doubles as the town's marquee cultural moment of the summer. The "Voices of 1776" program at Hoxie House and the Grist Mill on Sunday, June 28 offers a living-history window into Sandwich's role in the founding era. The Public Art Unveiling and Reception on June 30 will debut new work tied to the anniversary. Both events are free and open to the public; details are posted at sandwichmass.org/Calendar.aspx.
