Sandwich Announces Eight-Day America 250 Celebration Starting June 27

The Town of Sandwich officially announced a weeklong America 250 community celebration running June 27 through July 4, headlined by a July 4th Moonlighters Concert and fireworks display, as transfer station permit renewals approach a June 30 deadline.

TOWN HALL

Sandwich is joining communities across the country in marking the nation's 250th anniversary with a slate of family-friendly events spanning eight days. The June 27 kickoff features the Moonlighters Concert and a fireworks display, followed by a "Voices of 1776" living-history experience at Hoxie House and the Grist Mill on June 28, and a public art unveiling and reception on June 30. The town described the celebration as a chance to reflect on the past while looking toward the future; additional events are expected through Independence Day. Details are posted at sandwichmass.org.

Residents who use the Transfer Station should note that current 2025–2026 permits expire June 30. Renewals for the 2026–2027 permit year — valid July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 — are available now to avoid any lapse in access.

Chip seal surface treatment work on several town roadways, which began June 8, remains ongoing. Roads are open to traffic, but the town is asking drivers to expect delays and use alternate routes where possible.

The town also continues to encourage residents to prepare for hurricane season, which began June 1. As a coastal community, Sandwich urges households to review their preparedness plans before a storm threatens the area.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Sandwich Public Library is hosting author Ted Reinstein for a talk titled "Greetings from Breed's Hill: Fact & Folklore on America's 250th" on Tuesday, June 23 — a timely preview of the town's own commemoration week. The event is listed on the town calendar; residents interested in the history behind the anniversary celebrations will want to mark the date.

Also on the horizon: the 1st Annual Cape Cod Vintage Market lands on Saturday, June 20, offering a new community event for the summer calendar.
