Bound Brook Island Road Closes as Herring River Restoration Work Begins Monday
Construction crews are blocking through traffic on Bound Brook Island Road today as part of the regional Herring River Restoration Project, a same-day disruption that leads a full week of town deadlines, public meetings, and civic opportunities for residents.
TOWN HALL
N&M Excavating is working today along Bound Brook Island Road — between the Transfer Station and Bound Brook Island — raising low-lying sections of the roadway as part of the Wellfleet/Truro Herring River Restoration Project. No through traffic is permitted during work hours; detail officers are on site to guide both drivers and pedestrians through the affected stretch.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, MassDOT is hosting a public information meeting on a planned resurfacing of Route 6 through Truro and Wellfleet. The project is designed to improve pavement conditions, extend the life of existing road structures, and boost safety along the corridor. Residents with questions or concerns about the work should plan to attend.
Two volunteer and employment opportunities close out the week. The Planning Board is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy running through the 2027 Annual Town Election — the deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 17. The Treasurer/Collector Department is also hiring an Office Assistant to handle front-desk service, administrative tasks, and record keeping on behalf of the Town Clerk; applications are due Thursday, June 18.
Town offices and the Transfer Station will be closed Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. The Transfer Station will reopen Saturday, June 20.
Finally, residents who want to dig into Truro's water issues should save the date of June 24 for "Straight from the Source: A Water Forum," a town-hosted event designed to share current data, take community questions, and open an informed public dialogue about water in Truro.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Truro Public Library's Anne H. Brock Room is currently displaying "M-Ocean," a poetry exhibit by Jody Shyllberg. The library is also offering free seeds to help residents get a garden started — available while supplies last at 7 Standish Way, North Truro.
