Yarmouth Tightens Outdoor Water Rules Under Level 2 Drought Declaration

State drought managers have elevated Cape Cod to a Level 2 — Significant Drought designation, triggering new restrictions on outdoor water use in Yarmouth, while voters at a Special Town Meeting held Tuesday evening indefinitely postponed an article that would have funded library construction.

TOWN HALL

The Massachusetts Drought Management Taskforce upgraded Cape Cod's drought status to Level 2 — Significant, prompting the Town of Yarmouth to revise its restrictions on non-essential outdoor water use effective June 25. Residents should review the updated guidelines on the town's website to understand which activities are now limited or prohibited.

The drought declaration arrives as the region heads into its peak summer season, when outdoor water demand is highest.

In a separate development, a Special Town Meeting was held the evening of June 24. The single article on the warrant — related to library construction — was indefinitely postponed, meaning no vote was taken to approve or reject the funding. The project does not move forward at this time, and no new date for reconsideration has been announced.
