West Dennis Beach Parking Cut by Piping Plover Nesting as Summer Peaks
DENNIS — Piping plovers are claiming a corner of West Dennis Beach as the town heads into peak summer season, with the western portion of the main parking lot closed to protect an active nesting site — and the Dennis Public Library is lining up a full week of programs to welcome the season.

A section of the West Dennis Beach parking lot remains closed due to piping plover nesting activity. The closure affects the western portion of the lot and was first posted June 11; beachgoers should plan on reduced parking availability and allow extra time when heading to the beach this week.
Separately, town officials have been preparing for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, with the town and the Dennis Police Department coordinating public safety measures, traffic changes, and increased enforcement at Dennis beaches. A National Grid gas meter exchange program is also ongoing — residents who have not yet scheduled an appointment risk a temporary service interruption.

The Dennis Public Library in Dennis Port is opening the summer with a packed schedule. On Thursday, June 25, the library hosts Play, Storytime and Craft at 10:30 a.m. — a good option for families with young children. The following day, Friday, June 26, the library holds its Summer Reading Kick Off Event at 11 a.m., marking the official start of the summer reading program.
Looking ahead to Friday, June 27, the library presents "The Future of the Cape Cod Bridges" at 12:30 p.m., a timely community conversation about the ongoing bridge replacement project that affects travel on and off Cape for every Dennis resident. On Monday, June 30, Yoga Family Fun runs at 10:30 a.m.
