Sandwich Launches Week of America 250 Events Starting Saturday
With the nation's 250th birthday just days away, Sandwich is launching a week of community events beginning Saturday, June 27, that will carry residents from a concert and fireworks to historical performances and a public art unveiling before the Fourth of July.
TOWN HALL
Sandwich is set to mark America's semiquincentennial with a slate of family-friendly programming running June 27 through July 4. The celebration opens Saturday evening with a July 4th Moonlighters Concert and Firework Display. On Sunday, June 28, "Voices of 1776" brings the colonial era to life at the Hoxie House and Grist Mill. The week continues Tuesday, June 30, with a Public Art Unveiling and Reception. Full event details are available at sandwichmass.org.
Residents with Transfer Station permits should note that current 2025–2026 permits expire June 30. Renewals are required for uninterrupted access beginning July 1; the new permits will be valid through June 30, 2027.
The town is also reinforcing its summer "Slow Down – In Our Town" public safety campaign, a joint effort by the Department of Public Works and the Police Department, as increased visitor traffic is expected throughout the America 250 week and the broader summer season.
In a separate item of note for the town, the updated Town Charter has been finalized following approval by the Massachusetts Legislature and the Governor. The document is posted at sandwichmass.org for public review.
