Pamet Harbor Closes as Truro Opens Short-Term Rental Registration for Summer
Pamet Harbor is closed to swimmers after a bacteria exceedance, the town announced — a timely warning as summer crowds descend on the Outer Cape.
**TOWN HALL**
The harbor closure is the most urgent item on the town's board this cycle. The town website is carrying an emergency alert stating that Pamet Harbor is closed to swimming due to a bacteria exceedance; residents and visitors should avoid the water there until further notice.
On the administrative front, the town has opened 2026 short-term rental registration. The process is fully online this year — applications and the $450 permit fee (which includes inspection) must be submitted through the town's website. Payments will no longer be accepted at Town Hall, by mail, or by phone.
The Select Board has scheduled a hybrid public hearing for July 28 at 5 p.m. to present its Goals and Objectives for fiscal year 2027, review the goals set for the concluding year, and assess what was accomplished. Residents can attend in person or join remotely.
The town is also recruiting for a year-round DPW Mechanic — a full-time, 40-hours-per-week union position. Applications and copies of required licenses must be submitted by Monday, Aug. 3 at 3 p.m.
With hurricane season running June through November — peak activity typically falling between August and October — the town is urging all residents to sign up for ALERTruro, the Emergency Management Team's notification system for before, during, and after emergency events.
Separately, a remote public hearing has been posted for July 23 concerning 6 Highland Road.
**COMMUNITY & ARTS**
The Truro Public Library is currently displaying poetry by Jody Shyllberg in the Anne H. Brock Room under the exhibit title "M-Ocean." The library's seed lending program is also active — gardeners can stop in to pick up seeds to start their summer plots.
Looking ahead, the library's Summer Reading Program kicks off Saturday, June 27, alongside a Tech Help session with Caleb and a Bi-Monthly Moon Circles gathering with Donna, all on the same day.
