Bourne Planning Board Approves Amazon Granite Permit, Delays Cranberry Highway Housing Project

BOURNE — June 25, 2026 — Bourne Planning Board unanimously approves granite shop permit, delays mixed-use housing proposal. The board voted unanimously Thursday to grant a site plan review and special permit to Amazon Granite for a stone countertop manufacturing and retail facility at 130 MacArthur Boulevard, the former RMA gym site, after engineer Robert Zakosinski of Bracken Engineering presented a revised stormwater design developed at the Conservation Commission's request to protect a nearby vernal pool. A separate application by Bay Ridge Realty Trust to convert a former car wash at 74 Cranberry Highway into four one-bedroom apartments above four contractor storage bays was continued unanimously to July 23, with board members citing an inadequate landscaping plan, the board's longstanding policy against counting parking spaces inside buildings, a missing lighting plan, and the absence of structural engineering for rear retaining walls ranging up to ten feet in height. "I'm not prepared tonight to make a motion to approve this," said the board's assigned project reviewer, Steve. The board also discussed informally coordinating with school, police, and MassDOT officials on bridge-corridor traffic impacts on student attendance.
