Truro Moves Short-Term Rental Registration Fully Online for 2026 Season
The town launched its 2026 short-term rental registration season Tuesday, moving the entire process online and announcing an all-new $450 permit fee that includes inspection — changes that affect every STR host in town as the summer season ramps up.
TOWN HALL
Short-term rental hosts have one more thing on their summer checklist: the 2026 registration window is now open, and the process has moved fully online. The $450 permit fee covers both registration and inspection. Town Hall will no longer accept payments in person, by mail, or by phone, so hosts who haven't yet set up an online account will need to do so before completing their application. Details are at the town's official registration page (https://www.truro-ma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=186).
With hurricane season running June through November — and the most active stretch typically falling between August and October — the town is also urging residents to sign up for ALERTruro, its emergency notification system for communications before, during, and after weather events (https://www.truro-ma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=185).
The town is also hiring: the Department of Public Works is seeking a year-round union DPW Mechanic working 40 hours per week. Applications and copies of required licenses must be submitted by Monday, August 3, at 3 p.m. (https://www.truro-ma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=184).
A remote public hearing on a matter related to 6 Highland Road has been scheduled for July 23, 2026. Further details are posted at the town's civic alerts page (https://www.truro-ma.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=187).
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Truro Public Library is currently displaying poetry in an exhibit titled "M-Ocean" by Jody Shyllberg in the Anne H. Brock Room — worth a stop for anyone visiting the library this week.
For gardeners, the library's seed collection is available for checkout. The program is a low-barrier way to start or supplement a home garden, and seeds can be picked up during regular library hours.
